Background and Aim: According to various studies, spiritual intelligence is closely related to life satisfaction, which is a measure of subjective well-being that assesses an individual's feelings and attitudes towards life over a specific period of time. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between spiritual intelligence and life satisfaction in parents of children with special needs in Babil, Iraq.
Materials and Methods: The study population of this descriptive-correlational study included 340 households of parents of children with special needs in Babil, Iraq. The sample consisted of 100 parents (62 mothers and 38 fathers) who were selected using convenience sampling. The data collection tools included a spiritual intelligence questionnaire and a life satisfaction questionnaire. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics (mean±SD) and inferential statistics (linear regression).
Results: According to the findings, the mean values of the spiritual intelligence and life satisfaction were M=60.25 and M=18.81, respectively. The results of data analysis showed a positive and significant relationship between spiritual intelligence components and life satisfaction in parents of children with special needs (B=0.33). Approximately 11% of the variance in life satisfaction was explained by spiritual intelligence (R2=0.11). Furthermore, all dimensions of spiritual intelligence significantly predicted life satisfaction in parents of children with special needs. The highest weight was related to the Existential Critical Thinking component (B=0.257).
Conclusion: According to the results, higher levels of spiritual intelligence were associated with greater life satisfaction. Therefore, organizations that support children with special needs in Babil, Iraq, are encouraged to provide training workshops aimed at enhancing parents' spiritual intelligence and life satisfaction.
