Background and Aim: Despite their superior cognitive capabilities, the susceptibility of gifted adolescents to emotional and behavioral difficulties has been a focus of researchers' attention in recent years. The present study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a unified transdiagnostic treatment protocol on psychological well-being and academic resilience in gifted adolescents vulnerable to emotional and behavioral disorders.
Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a pretest–posttest design, a control group, and a follow-up phase. The statistical population consisted of all gifted female adolescents studying in upper secondary schools in Marivan, Kurdistan Province, Iran, during the 2023-24 academic year. Using purposive sampling, 30 students from Marivan’s gifted school who met the inclusion criteria were selected as the study sample. The participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=15) or the control group (n=15). Research instruments included the Samuels Academic Resilience Questionnaire (2004), Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Questionnaire (1989), the fifth edition of the Tehran–Stanford–Binet Intelligence Scale by Afrooz and Kamkari (2006), and the Achenbach and Rescorla (2001) Experience-Based Assessment System. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA.
Results: The results indicated that the developed unified transdiagnostic treatment protocol had significant effects on academic resilience and all its components, as well as on psychological well-being and its components, except for personal growth and purpose in life (P < 0/05).
Conclusion: Based on the obtained findings, it is recommended that specialists, therapists, and educators utilize this program to empower gifted adolescents and enhance their resilience and psychological well-being, particularly those at risk of emotional and behavioral difficulties.
