Introduction: As one of the vulnerable groups in any society, orphaned and maltreated children face numerous psychological challenges such as excessive rumination, low self-efficacy, and low quality of life, which can have long-term effects on their lives.
Aim: The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness training based on cognitive therapy (MBCT) on rumination, self-efficacy and quality of life of orphaned and abused children in Sanandaj city.
Method: This research was of an applied type and in terms of its implementation method, it was a quasi-experimental type with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population was all children who lived in centers for orphaned and maltreated children in Sanandaj city in 1402-1403. Their number was 60 children, 30 of whom were selected as a sample using the available sampling method and randomly divided into two experimental groups (15 people) and control (15 people). To collect data, the Nolen-Hoeksma rumination questionnaire (1991), Scherer self-efficacy (1982) and quality of life (1996) were used. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of covariance were used to analyze the data using SPSS21 software.
Results: The results showed that by controlling the effect of the pre-test as a covariate, the mean scores of the participants in the post-test had a significant difference (P˂0.05), which indicates the effect of the mindfulness training program based on cognitive therapy on reducing rumination (Sig=0.001 and F=75.207), increasing self-efficacy (Sig=0.001 and F=75.207), and quality of life (Sig=0.001 and F=43.472).
Conclusion: The results obtained indicate that mindfulness training based on cognitive therapy not only helps to reduce negative psychological symptoms but also plays an effective role in strengthening internal resources and improving the overall psychological well-being of orphaned and maltreated children. Therefore, it is recommended that these interventions be included in support and empowerment programs for this group of children to help improve their quality of life in a sustainable and comprehensive way.
