Abstract: (195 Views)
Introduction: Research shows that mothers of children with intellectual disabilities are constantly faced with blaming thoughts and use maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. Interventions are needed to equip mothers in this area. There is a research gap regarding the effectiveness of psychological capital training on emotion regulation strategies in this group of mothers.
Aim: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of training psychological capital components on emotion regulation strategies in mothers of children with intellectual disabilities.
Method: The research method was a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest type with a control group and follow-up. The statistical population included mothers of daughters with intellectual disabilities whose children were studying in exceptional elementary schools in Tehran in the 1400-1401 academic year. Using purposive sampling, 40 mothers were selected and assigned to the experimental and control groups. The research tool was the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ). 16 sessions were held for the experimental group. Data were analyzed using mixed analysis of variance and post hoc test.
Results: The results showed that the post-test scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group in adaptive emotion regulation strategies and decreased in maladaptive emotion regulation strategies (p<0.01). The effects of the program were sustained during the follow-up phase.
Conclusion: The psychological capital components training program is effective on emotion regulation strategies in mothers of children with intellectual disabilities. Based on this, it can be stated that it is essential to pay attention to strengthening mothers' psychological resources and having capabilities such as psychological capital.
