Introduction: Prolonge grief disorder is one of the common consequences of loss that can lead to continued psychological distress and impairment in personal and social functioning.
Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of psychodrama on experiential avoidance and mental pain in people with prolonged grief disorder.
Method: In the present study, a semi-experimental, pretest-posttest, control group design with a threemonth follow-up was employed. The statistical population included people with prolonged grief who referred to psychological clinics in Isfahan in 1404. Of these, 36 people were selected purposefully and based on the inclusion criteria and were randomly and equally replaced in two experimental and control groups. The experimental group received psychodrama intervention during 10 sessions (90 minutes per session). For data collection in the Experiential Avoidance questionnaires of Gámez et al. (2011), Orbach & Mikulincer Mental Pain Scale (2003)  was used. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS-26 software and repeated measures analysis of variance.
Results: The results showed that the effect of psychodrama intervention on experiential avoidance and mental pain in people with prolonged grief disorder was significant (P<0.05) and its effect size was 32.3 and 19.5 percent, respectively, and these effects remained stable in the follow-up phase.
Conclusion: Psychodrama intervention was associated with a decrease in experiential avoidance and an improvement in mental pain in people with prolonged grief disorder, so this method can be used to improve the mental health of these people.
