Introduction: Spousal abuse disrupts family functioning and leads to serious, often irreversible consequences for the family unit.
Aim: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Cognitive-Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in enhancing the psychological well-being of women who have experienced spousal abuse.
Method: A quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest and a control group was employed. The statistical population included all women victims of spousal abuse who referred to counseling centers in Hamedan in 2024. Using purposive sampling, 45 participants were selected and randomly assigned to three groups: CAT, CBT, and control (15 in each group). The Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale (2002) was used for data collection. Both interventions were delivered in 16 sessions of 90 minutes each. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25, ANCOVA, and Bonferroni post hoc tests.
Results: The findings showed that both CAT (F=30.227, p<0.05) and CBT (F=8.002, p<0.05) significantly improved psychological well-being. Bonferroni analysis revealed that CAT was more effective than CBT (M=-11.888, p<0.05).
Conclusion: Both Cognitive-Analytic Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy contribute to enhancing the psychological well-being of women victims of spousal abuse. However, CAT demonstrated superior effectiveness and is therefore recommended for this population.
