Abstract
Introduction: People with unconventional sexual preferences live with different psychological experiences.
Method: This study was conducted with a qualitative approach and using the narrative analysis method in the last six months of 2023 and the first six months of 2024. The statistical population included all adolescents and young people with unconventional sexual preferences in Alborz province. Based on the approach of the maximum variety of theoretical saturation rule, 16 people with unconventional sexual preferences or tendencies, were selected purposefully. The collected data was started through individual and face-to-face interviews in a semi-in-depth and unstructured way and was analyzed in a semi-structured way. By categorizing similar semantic units and analyzing them manually, main themes and sub-themes were obtained.
Results: Based on the interviews conducted; three main themes; The feeling of being different from others in different dimensions, challenge with the body or body image and personal challenges and injuries and 11 sub-themes for the psychological challenges of people with unconventional sexual preferences were obtained through narrative analysis.
Conclusion: The current research seeks to find the research gap and the need of the society with different sexual preferences in the field of personal and psychological problems. In addition, another contribution of this study in expanding the knowledge of this field is to introduce the psychological problems of people with unconventional sexual preferences and investigate the role of these problems on their behavior, attitude and the resulting injuries.
