Introduction: study of effective factors on educational progress somehow is complicated due to its multiple aspects influenced by cognitive and none – cognitive factors. Two effective factors on educational progress are students' educational skills and personality traits.
Aim: This study aimed to anticipate educational progress of students of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science according to their educational skills and personality traits , in 1395 (2016).
Methodology: this was a correlative descriptive study; its statistical population consisted of all of students of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science in 95-96 session. sample of 250 students was selected by random cluster sampling method from among 4 schools of Medicine, Rehabilitation, Pharmacy and Nursing and Wifery. Study tools included educational skills questionnaire and  NEO Personality Inventory. Data analysis was   conducted by multiple regression method using SPSS V21
Results: the study results indicated that 43.1% of educational progress variance was explained by  factors of educational skills among which controlling learning activity (β═ 0.161 , p< 0.05 ) concentration (β═ 0.094 , p< 0.05 ) and self – efficacy (β═ 0.142 , p< 0.05 ) anticipated students' educational progress positively. Furthermore personality traits explained 23.4 % of educational progress variance. The final model examining standard regression coefficients revealed that  , students' educational progress was anticipated negatively  by neurosis (β═ 0.240 , p< 0.01 ) and positively by extroversion (β═ 0.173 , p< 0.01 ) and conscientiousness (β═ 0.363 , p< 0.05 ).
Conclusion: the results suggested that it is feasible to anticipate students' educational progress according to their educational skills and personality traits. So to enhance students' academic performance it is necessary to consider factors of educational skills and personality traits along with other factors.
