Abstract Introduction: Given the high prevalence of psychiatric disorders in women prisoners, this study was aimed to investigate the effect of training rational-emotive-behavior therapy on mental health of women in prisons in Tehran (2011). Methods: Method: 148 prisoners in two groups of non-intervention and treatment of mental and emotional education of the Evin prison in Tehran. Tests SCL-90-R, one-sample Kolmogorov-smear, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann-Whitney test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov two-sample, t-test single sample and chi-square were used . Findings: All indices were significantly different between the two groups (p<0.001). In the intervention group, the results of both non-parametric tests indicated a significant difference between the two independent groups (p <0.001). However in the control group, the two statistical methods were not consistent with each other. Conclusion: The rational-emotive-behavior therapy intervention is effective in reducing mental disorders in women prisoners.
